Baseball Historian Biography

There is a nationwide club called 'The Emil Verban Society' honoring this popular player of the 1940's. He was one of the hardest players for opposing pitchers to strike out. "Mr. Nice Guy" Emil Verban played three years with the St. Louis Cardinals, 1944-46. In 1945, he batted .278, lined 22 doubles and struck out only 15 times in 597 at bats. Verban was a fans' favorite with his hustling, great fielding range, and winning attitude. Baseball Historian He was traded to the Phillies in 1947 where he hit .285, 14 doubles, 8 T's, .316 on-base-pct. and fanned only 8 times in 540 at bats, an amazingly low average of K's/per/at-bats. Verban played his final two years with the Chicago Cubs, and in 1949, he hit .289, 2 K's in 343 at bats. Emil Verban played just 6 full seasons but ranks in the top for fan friendliness. In his career: .272 BA, .301 on-base-pct, scored 301 runs, 99 doubles, 26 triples, 74 K's in 2911 at bats. Verban hit one major league home run. Baseball History - baseballhistorian.com
