A flame-thrower with pinpoint control, Sonny Siebert won over 10 games nine straight seasons 1965-1972, and collected 140 career wins. Pitching for the Cleveland Indians in 1965, his second big-league season, he rang up a 16-8 record, with a stingy 2.43 ERA, had the lowest on-base-pct in the AL (.262) and struck out 191 batters, while walking just 46 in 188.7 innings. In 1966, Siebert, with one of the fastest fastballs of this era, led the league in winning/pct, (.667) when he again went 16-8 for Cleveland. Traded to the Boston Red Sox in April of 1969, much to the dismay of Indian fans, he posted consecutive win/loss records for Boston of 14-11, 15-8, 16-10 and 12-12... Wilfred 'Sonny' Siebert career stats: 140-114 record, 3.21 ERA, 399G, 307GS, 67GC, 1919 hits in 2152 innings, 1512Ks, 692 Walks, .238 opponents batting average. ... baseballhistorian.com - Archives |
