Right-hander Phil Paine, pitched in 21 games as a reilef pitcher with the Braves in Boston in 1951, then pitched in the minors until 1954 when the Braves moved the team to Milwaukee, where he joined them. In the next two years, Phil Paine pitched 26 games total, until he was traded to the Cardinals in winter of 1957. With St. Louis, Phil Paine fitted nicely into the bullpen, and had a very solid season, going 5-1, with a 3.36 earned run average in 46 relief appearances. However, his arm looked overworked , he became expendable to the Cardinals, and was traded along with outfielder Wally Moon for OF Gino Cimoli to the LA Dodgers. After the trade, Phil Paine never pitched another inning in MLB. |
