Born in the town of Pittsburg, located in the state of Kansas - a veteran of 14 major league seasons, Ray Mueller played four seasons with the old Boston Braves, 1935-38; two with Pittsburgh, 1939-1940; and then caught for the Cincinnati Reds starting in 1943 - finishing his career in 1951 with the Boston Braves. In 1943, Mueller, then 31-years old, lined 19 doubles, batted a solid .260 for the Reds, while working behind home plate in 140 games. He caught every one of Cincinnati's 155 games the next year - had career-highs with 159 hits in 555 at bats, rifled 24 doubles, 4 triples and 10 homers, scored 54 runs, and drove in 73 runs. In 1946 he caught 100 games, and lined 30 extra base hits. A patient batsman, Iron Man Ray Mueller struck out just 322 times and walked 250 times in 982 games spanning 14 years - 1935-1951...
