Baseball Historian Biography

A standout utility infielder, Mike Gazella played on one of the best teams of all-time, the New York Yankees of 1926-1928. A very fine defensive player, he played alongside some of the world’s greatest baseball players, including Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Earl Combs, Waite Hoyt, Herb Pennock, to name just a few. In the 1926 World Series Yankees Mike Gazella was inserted defensively at third base.

 

In his 4-year career, all with the Yankees, Mike Gazella played 105 games at third base, 24 at shortstop and 6 at second base. In 1926 he lined 4 hits in 9 pinch-hit at bats.
