A standout batsman, Ray Blades compiled a very solid .301 MLB career batting average during his 10-year tenure. He played on four St Louis Cardinals pennant winners, 1926, 1928, 1930 and 1931. And, he also managed the Cardinals in 1939 and 1940, finishing second and seventh. After that, he was a long-time coach.
