One of this era top all-around baseball players, Jesus Alou was born in Haina, Dominican Republic and started playing in the States professionally at age 16 for Hastings of the Nebraska State Freshman League. He worked in the minors, including Eugene of the Northwest League where he hit .350 and .336 in 1960 and 1961. Joining the San Francisco Giants in late-1963 for 16 games. Jesus Alou took over one of the starting outfield slots in 1964 and was a fixture there until he was traded to the Houston Astros. A lifetime .280 batter, in his career he hit over .300 four times plus two years of hitting over .290. He lined 1,216 hits in 1,380 games. Jesus is Brother of Felipe Alou |
