Dave McNally - Baltimore Orioles
Dave McNally hit a grand-slam home run and pitched a complete game as the Orioles pounded the Cinc. Reds in game three of the 1970 World Series. McNally's great game led the Orioles to a 9-3 win.  The Orioles went on to win the series 4 games to 1.

Wilbur Wood - Chicago White Sox
Wilbur Wood issued less than two walks per 9 innings in 1972 and in one stretch of nine games gave up less than a walk a game.

Hank Aaron - Willie Mays
On April 28, 1971, Hank Aaron crashed his 600th career home run that helped the Braves grab an early lead but the
San Francisco Giants came back to win on Willie Mays' run scoring single in the 10th. inning. The Giants won 6-5.

Willie Stargell - Pittsburgh Pirates
On April 28, 1971, Pirate slugger Willie Stargell hit his
11th. homer in April setting an all-time homer mark for
most home runs in April.

Steve Carlton - Philadelphia Phillies
In 1972, Steve Carlton led the league in wins with 27 and in ERA with 1.97.  He also was tops in the NL in innings pitched with 346 and in strikeouts with 310.  The Phillies ended in last place with a 59-97 record. Carlton won his first "Cy Young Award". Steve Carlton went on to win a total of four "Cy Young Awards"

Ken Holtzman - Chicago Cubs
June 3, 1971, Left-hander Ken Holtzman pitched his second career no-hitter as the Cubs edged the Cincinnati Reds 1-0.  Two years prior, Holtzman throw a no-hitter against the Atlanta Braves.

Rico Carty - Atlanta Braves
Aug., 1972, Rico Carty, Atlanta Braves outfielder, and last years' NL batting champion announced his right eye had been damaged permanently as a result of a beating by three Atlanta policemen.  The three policeman were suspended without pay.

Frank Robinson - Baltimore Orioles
Sept 14, 1971, Frank Robinson became only the 11th player in baseball history to hit 500 career home runs.  He slugged one in each game of a doubleheader vs the Detroit Tigers.  Robinson drew a standing ovation after his historic feat was announced.
