A contact hitter, who rarely struck out, Betsy Jochum was one of the fastest runners of the All-American Girls League. In her rookie season of 1943, she hit a solid .273, stole 66 bases and scored 70 Runs in 101 games with the South Bend Blue Sox.

Jochum led the league in batting average in her sophomore year by hitting a respectable .296, scored a career-high 72 runs, and stole a career-best 127 bases in 112 games. An excellent leadoff batter, she stole 354 life-time bases in 645 career games.
