Brought up by the St. Louis Cardinals in 1954, Wally Moon made head-line news with his outstanding fielding and clutch hitting. He was voted 'Rookie of the Year' as he hit .304, with 29 two base hits, 12 HR's in 635 at bats, scored 106 runs and had an excellent on base pct of .375. Wally Moon hit .295 with 24 home runs in 1957 and helped the Cardinals in the pennant battle. He was traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers in 1959 and continued to line clutch hits. In 1959, his first season with the Dodgers, Wally Moon batted .302, scored 93 runs and ranked-up 26 doubles, 11 triples and 19 HR's and his all-around play helped the Dodgers win the World Championship. Wally Moon is credited with helping his young roommate, Sandy Koufax, by informing him that he was tipping off his pitches with his delivery. At the end of August in 1959, Koufax changed his delivery slightly and tied a major league record by fanning 18 batters and Moon crushed a three-run HR in the 9th inning as the Dodgers won 5-2. In 1961, Moon hit .328, a slg pct of .505 and led the league with an .438 on base pct.
