A standout centerfielder, Rick Monday played in the era before mega-dollar contract and he was a true American Hero among many people in our country. On April 25 1976, in a Cubs game at Wrigley Field against the LA Dodgers Rick Monday was walking out between innings to his centerfield position when he seen two men running across the field, one of them had an American flag and the other a can of gasoline and he later said, ‘I saw they had a can of something and were pouring it over the flag. That’s when I started to move, and grabbed the flag and ran with it to safety.’
