The Game

Union Grove Broncos defeated Oconto Falls  2-0

An old fashioned pitching duel between Alice Fitzpatrick of Union Grove and McKenna Larsen of Oconto Falls had the air of excitement until the scoreless tie was broken in the bottom of the 5^th inning. Union Grove scored the first run when Alex Kies doubled and scored on a single by Alecia Faber.

Union Grove of Wisconsin scored again in the last of the sixth on a double by Anna McClelland and an opposite field triple down the right field line by senior Emily McClelland. A shortstop Emily McClelland also made a couple of very fine defensive plays.

Broncos pitcher Alice Fitzpatrick threw a two hit shutout and struck out 10 in her 7 innings complete softball game. After the game she was quoted as saying, “My rise ball was working pretty good but basically it was how we set the pitches up”.

McKenna Larsen struck out 8, walked one in her 6 innings on the mound.  She struck out Alecia Faber in the third inning.  McKenna Larsen threw fastballs and an assortment of off-speed pitches. 

Alecia Faber, a junior catcher, lined her RBI single on a 2-2 count. Anna McClelland had 2 hits in 3 at bats, one run scored, and a double.

Union Grove improved its 2011 girls softball record to 25-4 while Oconto Falls fell to 17-5.
