Right-hander Kali Riddell mixed an assortment of pitches and hurled a resounding 2-hit, 2-0 shutout during 70 degree weather on Friday to blank the Rantoul Eagles (Illinois Girls High School Fastpitch Softball). The University High Pioneers improved its season record to 7 wins and 2 losses overall and 2-1 in the Corn Belt Conference.

Hard-hitting Maggie Bee lined 2 hits and shortstop Chloe Hundman blasted a double to lead U High offensive.

After the game Kali Riddell gave special credit to her standout catcher, Haley Cook. "She called a great game as always," said Kali. "Haley had the Rantoul batters off guard. She had me working up and down the ladder with pitches."

University High manager Michael Sondgeroth and assistant manager/ first base coach Laura Sellers were smiling and beaming after the win which moved the Pioneers to 2-1 in the Corn Belt Conference.

Kali Riddell, a sophomore, struck out 12 and walked just 2 in helping U High to a 2-0 win. She relied on a rise ball and a 58 miles per hour fastball.

Right-hander Chloe Hundman, who played shortstop in Friday's game, is scheduled to be the starting pitcher in the first game of tomorrow's double-header and Kali Riddell will play shortstop. Haley Cook will be the catcher behind home plate.
