The Pittsburgh Pirates traded veteran outfielder Casey Stengel to the Philadelphia Phillies for outfielder/infielder Possum Whitted.

Reviewing the Trade:

Both players were fast in the field and excellent base runners. Casey Stengel had more power in his bat, however George Whitted was also very fine hitter. At the time of the trade Stengel was 30-years old and Whitted was too. Stengel played just 1 and a half seasons in Philly before being traded to the NY Giants, while Whitted played 2 and a half with the Pirates.

As was the custom in this time, Possum Whitted, who was born and raised in North Carolina quickly picked up his nicknamed because of his tales of possum hunting.
