Pete Ward was a third baseman for the Chicago White Sox during the 1960's. Playing at third baseman, Ward had excellent range but lacked consistent throwing skills. In 1963, he led AL third basemen with 38 errors but won numerous games by hitting .295, 22 HR's and 84 RBI's and finished second in the league with 298 total bases. His best season was 1964 he hit 23 homers, including three grand slams, along with 94 RBI's. From then on, Pete Ward had recurring neck spasms and later a back injury caused him to become a part-time player. In 1967 he did managed to hit 18 HR's even though his playing time was limited because of his injuries. Pete Ward's career stats: .254 BA in 973 games, 98 HR's and 427 RBI's. baseballhistorian.com |
