Known for his clutch-hitting, Tony Perez amassed 2,732 hits, 379 HRs, and 1,652 RBIs while batting .279 in 2,777 games over his 23-year career. Along with Johnny Bench, Tom Seaver and Joe Morgan, Perez became the fourth Hall of Fame member of the Reds' "Big Red Machine" dynasty when he was inducted into the Hall in 2000. (Pete Rose due to his involvement in gambling is still ineligible to enter the Hall of Fame). Playing first and third base, Perez played with Cincinnati from 1964-1976, then played for Montreal, Boston and Philadelphia before rejoining the Reds for his final three seasons, 1984-86. Perez hit 30 or more homers 8 times, with highs of 37 in 1969 and 40 in 1970. Perez had over 100 RBIs 7 times and over 90 RBIs 12 times. He made the All-Star team 7 times. |
