Nicknamed the "Count," John Montefusco was the National League Rookie of the Year in 1975, after striking out a still Giants' rookie record 215 batters. The following year, 1976, Montefusco won a career high 16 games and made the NL All-Star team. In his first major league game on September 3, 1974 at Dodger Stadium, Montefusco replaced starter Ron Bryant in the first innning. Working out of a bases-loaded jam in the first, Montefusco finished with a 6-hit, 9-5 victory, and hit a 2-run homer. |
