Baseball Historian Biography

The 6 ft 4 inches 220 pound Joe Mauer is quickly becoming one of the top hitting catchers of all-time. He stated with the Minnesota Twins at age 21 in 2004 and batted a solid .308 in 35 games. In 2005 as the Twins first string catcher he hit .294 in 131 games. Joe Mauer led the American League with a .347 batting average in 2006.

 

Upon Further Review:

Joe Mauer can drive the ball from line-to-line, and he can quickly adjust to the pitcher’s fastball, curves and changeups. A dangerous clutch hitter he knows the strike zone, walked 79 times in 2006 and struck out just 54 times in 521 at bats.

A great athlete, he runs well, has a strong throwing arm, and Twins pitchers say ‘he works well with them.’

In the first 3 games of 2007 Joe Mauer lined 5 hits in 11 at bats and Minnesota won all three games.
