A muscular catcher, Johnnie Heving played during most of the 1920s and had some very fine major league seasons. He posted a solid .981 fielding average behind home plate and mustered a solid .265 career batting average, including a career-best .319 with the Boston Red Sox in 1929. A noted first ball swinger John Heving rarely stuck out or walked. He struck out just 59 times in 985 career at bats, 398 games and walked only 65 times. Note: Johnnie Heving’s younger brother, Joe, was a long-time major league pitcher. Baseball History |
