1930 Pitching Wins

In the depression days, the old Philadelphia Athletics defeated the St. Louis Cardinals in 6 games in the 1930 World Series.  Starters Lefty Grove and George Earnshaw pitched 85 percent of the Series and combined posted an ERA of 1.02. The pair dosed the red-hot Cardinals, who had hit .314 and averaged 6½ runs per game during the season. The A’s hit only .197 themselves in the Series, but more than half their hits went for extra bases as they outscored St. Louis 21-12 and took their second consecutive world championship in six games.
