The visiting Colorado Rockies improved their 2011 season standings to 10-2, the best record in the major leagues by winning a doubleheader from the New York Mets. Colorado relied on homers and solid relief pitching to stymie New York 6-5 and 9-4.

In the opening game, Rockies leftfielder Carlos Gonzalez blasted a 2 run home run and shortstop Troy Tulowitzki lined 3 hits in 4 at bats, including his 6th homer of ’11, a solo blast. Starting pitcher Matt Reynolds (1-0) won his first of 2011 with a 5 hit, 2 run 5-inning effort and 5 relievers finished up, with Matt Lindstrom getting his 2nd save of the baseball season. Rockies catcher Jose Morales had 2 hits in 3 at bats, including a double, and drove in 2 runs (RBI).

In the 2nd game, Troy Tulowitzki hit his major league leading 7th homer, a bases empty blast off Mets starter Chris Campuano (1-1), who yielded 8 hits, 7 runs in 5 2/3 innings. Colorado’s second baseman Jonathan Herrera lined a 3 run homer off reliever T Bucholtz during the Rockies 6 run, 6th inning.

It was the 22nd homer in the last 38 games for Troy Tulowitzki, spanning last season and this 2010-2011. Those stats set a new major league baseball record.
