The St. Louis Cardinals rolled to a 11-2 win over the Houston Astros as first baseman Albert Pujols cracked out 2 homers and had 7 RBIs in 4 officialat bats before 43,454 fans in St. Louis. His display of power helped the Cardinals improve its 2009 season record to 4-2. His first homer, a grand slam homer over the left-field wall, came off Houston's starter Roy Oswalt (0-2) and gave St. Louis a 6-0 lead. Albert Pujols lined a 3-run homer in the 7th off reliever Wesley Wright.

Albert Pujols resounding Saturday matched a career-best 7 RBIs vs the NY Mets on 8.22.2006. This was his 24th career multi-homer game. The AP News quoted Albert Pujols as saying after the game, "I feel good. I don't know about locked in. I'm just putting my best swing out there and doing what I can to help the ballclub out." For the first six games of the young season he is batting .429 with 3 home runs and 9 RBIs.

Winning pitcher Adam Wainwright (1-0) started for the Cardinals and gave up 4 hits, no runs, struckout 4 and walked 3. In 2008 despite being on the disabled list due to a finger injury for almost 2 months, Adam Wainwright compiled a sterling 11-3 record with a 3.20 ERA in 20 starts.
