The Toronto Blue Jays were the team to beat in the major leagues in 1992. They rolled past the Atlanta Braves 4 games to 2 in the 1992 World Series and then, took home the World Series Trophy again in 1993 by beating the Philadelphia Phillies in 6 games.

Robin Yount, Milwaukee Brewers, SS/OF, RH - chosen for the All-Star game, Yount born in Danville, Illinois on 9/16/55 is ranked as one of the top all-around players in the majors... debuted with the Brewers back in 1974, he has lined 3,025 career hits and, going into the 1993 season has smashed 558 doubles, 123 triples, 243 home runs while carrying a nice .287 lifetime batting average.

Voted the American League's Most Valuable Player in 1982 as a shortstop and again in 1989, this time while playing centerfield. In 1982, Yount led the league with 210 hits, led the majors with 46 doubles, while hitting .331, scoring 129 runs, 114 RBIs.

Barry Bonds, Pittsburgh Pirates, OF, LH - one of the best all-around players in history, Bonds led the league in 1992 with 109 Runs, and led with a .624 slugging percentage... while batting .311, lining 36 Ds, 34 Hr, 103 RBIs, and stole 31 bases... rated as one of the top outfielders of all-time... was named NL Player of the Month in April 1992, hit .317, blasted 7 home runs with 17 RBIs... Born in Riverside, CA on 7/24/64.

Roger Clemens, Boston Red Sox, Pitcher RH - the League's mound master has already led the league in shutouts 5 times, in ERA three times and twice in innings pitched. Armed with a blazing fastball and a hard slider, Clemens has chalked up three 20-win seasons for the Red Sox, going 24-4 in 1986, 20-9 in 1987 and 21-6 in 1990 when he blazed past AL batters and posted a compelling 1.93 ERA.

Roger Clemens won the Cy Young in 1986, 1987 and 1991.

Ryne Sandberg, Chicago Cub, Second Baseman RH - holds most fielding records for second basemen in history... was voted the NL Most Valuable Player in 1984 when he became only the second player in baseball's long history to hit at least 19 doubles, 19 triples and 19 homers in a single season - he lined 36 Ds, 19 Ts and 19 Hr... has collected over 100 runs scored in a year seven times... in 1992, Ryno batted .304, 100 Runs, 32 Ds, 26 Hr, 86 RBIs... a Gold Glove winner every year from 1983 thru 1991.

Don Mattingly, New York Yankees, First Baseman LH - One of baseball's most feared hitters, Mattingly drove in over 100 runs four straight times 1984-1987 and also collected 113 RBIs in 1989... has three seasons with over 200 hits, leading the AL with 207 in '84 an leading the majors with an amazing total of 238 hits in 1986, when he led the AL with a .343 BA... was AL MVP in 1985, hitting 48 Ds, 35 Hr, 145 RBIs and hit .324... followed that in 1986 with 53 Ds, 31 Hr, 113 RBIs, .352 BA.

Mattingly suffered a severe back injury in 1990 and his stats have fallen off lately... in 1992, batted .282, 40 doubles, 14 homers, 96 RBIs.

An outstanding base runner - has stolen 249 career bases, lined 275 doubles, 75 triples and 59 home runs.

Lee Smith, St. Louis Cardinals, Relief Pitcher RH - has gathered more saves (355) than any other closer in baseball history. A fans' favorite, Lee Smith dominated hitters with his fastball and breaking pitch... led the NL with 47 saves in 1991 and with 43 in 1992... the veteran debuted with the Cubs in 1980 - and led the league with 29 saves for the 1983 Cubs while posting a brilliant 1.65 ERA... six different years recorded an ERA under 3.00.

John Smoltz, Atlanta Braves, Pitcher RH - set a new Atlanta record with 15 strikeouts in a 2-1 complete game win on May 24, 1992, breaking Denny Lemaster's mark of 14 set in '66... Smoltz stats include a 14-11, 3.85 ERA in 1990... a 14-13, 3.80 in 1991 and a 15-12, 2.85 ERA in 1992.

On June 7-8, 1992, Juan Gonzalez hit 4 homers in 5 at bats - 3 in one game and 1 in the other... and in the last week of July rapped 2 yard shots for the Rangers in a single game three times. Born in Puerto Rico on 10/20/69.
