En 2.2 innings permitió una carrera sucia y se fue sin decisión... Su única otra salida ocurrió el 1 de diciembre, cuando lanzó 2.0 episodios en blanco ante Caracas. Posteriormente el campeonato fue cancelado debido a un paro nacional.

Fue escogido como “Novato del Año” gracias a sus dos juegos ganados, ocho salvados y efectividad de 2.62...Su primera presentación fue como abridor el 26 de octubre frente al Caracas, equipo ante el cual lanzó 3.0 innings y aceptó una carrera...Tres días después se apuntó su primer triunfo de por vida en el circuito venezolano, gracias a un trabajo de 2.2 entradas en blanco ante Cardenales.La victoria llegó después de haber conseguido un total de 13 lauros en las Mayores (cinco en la post-temporada del 2002 y ocho en la ronda regular del 2003)...Luego de su salida como abridor fue pasado al bullpen, donde se desempeñó como el set up de Jorge Julio Tapia.Sin embargo, una lesión del grandeliga de los Orioles le impidió seguir actuando con los Tiburones, por lo que Rodríguez asumió el papel de cerrador. Terminó la contienda junto a Francisco Butto del Aragua con ocho rescates, cifra que sólo superaron el caribeño Elio Serrano con 14 y el magallanero Pat Mahomes con 10...
