2007 Dugout Chatter

The infield looks set at third base with Chad Tracy, at shortstop is Stephen Drew, at second base is switch-hitter Orlando Hudson, Conor Jackson looks ready to go if veteran Tony Clark shoulder is not healed by April. 23-year old Alberto Callaspo, a switch-hitter is slated for utility duty. Catcher Chris Snyder, 26-years old, rates high on defense and has improved on offense. Robby Hammock is returning and rookie Miguel Montero will compete for playing time.

Outfielders are Eric Barnes in left, Chris Young roams center and Carlos Quentin right field. Veteran Jeff DaVanon is being counted on to help play any of the outfield positions when he returns from surgery on his left ankle. 26-year old Scott Hairston has speed and should get playing time in 2007. Outfielder Dave Krynzel will also be vying for a spot in the lineup.

The Arizona pitching staff deserves another look by Diamondbacks fans. The starters include right-handers Brandon Webb, Livan Hernandez and Egar Gonzales. Lefties include Doug Davis and returning 43-year old future Hall of Famer Randy Johnson. Jose Valverde will be in the closer role. Right-handers Brandon Lyon, Juan Cruz and Brandon Medders will be the set-up relievers or middle relievers. Other pitchers to watch include Jose Valverde, Doug Slaten, Tony Pena, Jorge Julio, Enrique Gonzalez and Casey Daigle.
