World War II; Concern over the brightness of the lights during night ball games; the New York City's police commissioner had the New York Giants and Brooklyn Dodgers run a test. Their playing fields would be unused, but the lights would be turned on to see if the lights would assist Nazi sub- marines operating in the Atlantic Ocean off New York City.
